After nearly a year of negotiations between leaders of the Beni Halba and Gimir tribes a final reconciliation agreement was signed in the presence of the Sudanese second Vice-President in Nyala on Monday. The delegations of both sides affirmed their full commitment to the implementation of agreement’s terms on the ground. During the press conference after the signing of the agreement, the head of the Gimir delegation, Abdel Rahman Abdallah Hamidallah, said that the violence between the two tribes had been “the work of the devil”. “We have overcome our bitterness. We repented and returned to God”. The head of the delegation of the Beni Halba, Adam Abdel Rahman El Bishari, described the reconciliation as “a gift to the people of Darfur”. Second Vice-President, Hassabo Mohamed Abdel Rahman, stated that he has instructed the establishment of a mechanism to be set up by the South Darfur State. The mechanism should enable a delegation of competent authorities to immediately move to the area where problems are emerging, in order to urge tribesmen to implement the terms of the agreement on the ground.
