The Bank of Khartoum suspended more than 30 employees from work yesterday because of their partial strike the previous day.
The protest organised and staged by a number of bank employees on Wednesday was aimed to condemn the killing of protesters during the current demonstrations against the regime of President Omar Al Bashir, which has led to the ongoing price increases of fuel, flour, medicines and other basic goods.
The Bank’s Human Resources Department said, in letters addressed to the suspended employees and seen by Radio Dabanga, that the decision (a “suspension until further notice”) was issued by the senior management of the bank.
The department called on the employees to hand over their duties and responsibilities to their direct management.
During the eight weeks of protests, medical staff, pharmacists and educational workers also downed their tools to add their voice to the nationwide demonstrations.
