‘Avoid famine, expedite Ma’aliya-Hamar reconciliation in East Darfur’: Nazir
A native administration chief in East Darfur has called for the planned reconciliation conference between the Ma’aliya and the Hamar tribes to be sped-up. “The risk of people dying of starvation is rapidly increasing,” the Deputy Nazir of the Ma’aliya tribe said on Sunday during a meeting in Adila locality with the East Darfur parliamentary committee for reconciliation between the Ma’aliya and the Hamar tribes. The Deputy Nazir warned that the severe food shortage may widen if farmers cannot cultivate their lands because of the armed conflicts between the West Kordofani Hamar and the Ma’aliya in East Darfur. Therefore he urged the committee to expedite the convening of the reconciliation conference. “It should take place before the 25th of May.” File photo: Ma’aliya tribesmen (Hamid Abdelsalam/Unamid) Related:Ma’aliya, Hamar clash in East Darfur and West Kordofan (6 April 2014) Oil explorations suspended in Zurga Um Hadeeda, East Darfur (6 April 2014)Ma’aliya, Hamar tribes unrest after murder in East Darfur (7 February 2014) Hamar-Ma’aliya clashes displace more than 2,000: OCHA (19 December 2014)
