Authorities arrest six students at Nyala demonstration

On Monday six students at the University of Nyala were arrested by security authorities following their involvement in a peaceful protest. The march was protesting against the deportation of students from boarding schools to the university and general neglect of services such as the lack of drinking water. It started at Mosay and ended in the centre of the city at the university’s administrative centre. One student activist told Radio Dabanga security authorities responded violently to the peaceful demonstration using tear gas and batons. The students organised a sit-in today and said they will continue to demonstrate until their demands are met.
