Assaults, beating, robbery in North, South, Central Darfur

On Monday, a number of people were attacked by militiamen in North, South, and Central Darfur. In the area of Liwi, east of Tawila town in North Darfur, a group of militiamen assaulted more than 20 displaced people on their farms in the area of Liwi. “The Janjaweed beat them with rifle butts and whips. Some of them were seriously wounded,” a sheikh of Rwanda camp reported. He appealed via Radio Dabanga to Unamid and the Sudanese authorities to “put an end to the attacks of government militias, and protect the displaced, so that they will be able to harvest their crops”. At the market of Tawila town, trader Adam Abakar was robbed at gunpoint. “The gunmen robbed me of SDG3,000 ($525) and my mobile,” the victim told Radio Dabanga. Coma In Burley valley, 1 km south of Kalma camp in Nyala locality, gunmen opened fire on camp residents Hassan Yousef and Jacob Ali who were working at their farms. “Both were critically injured,” their neighbour informed Radio Dabanga. “They were transferred, in coma, to a hospital in Nyala.” He added that the assailants also beat a young woman (17) with their rifles, before they left. Shot Displaced were also assaulted in the area of Gurnei, north of Nierteti town, Central Darfur. “Ibrahim Adam Ateem, and Najib Hasabelnabi sustained serious injuries when some Janjaweed suddenly shot at them,” an elder of the Nierteti North camp told Radio Dabanga.
