Army besiege district in El Fasher, North Darfur
Heavily armed army and security forces surrounded El Ziyadiya district of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, on Monday. Sources differ about the reason for the siege. According to a listener in El Fasher, the military action came against the backdrop of the refusal by a lieutenant of the paramilitary Border Guards named Musab to hand his vehicle that he was using to trade with. Others told Radio Dabanga that the Border Guards had entered El Ziyadiya district in order to release a detained comrade. Another source said that the government forces were searching for the thieves of three vehicles, “one of them belonging to Unamid. The residents of the district were terrified by the siege. A committee of Ziyadiya tribal leaders intervened, and contained the situation.” File photo: Sudanese army forces by night Related: Two killed in East Darfur clash, Unamid vehicle hijacked in North Darfur (5 October 2014)
