Armed movements condemn UNAMID killing

SLA-Abdul Wahid and JEM accuse government and its militias of orchestrating the attacksTwo armed opposition movements in Sudan condemned the attack on UNAMID soldiers by unidentified gunmen near Nyala on Monday.Sudan Liberation Army-Abdul Wahid (SLA-AW) and Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased soldier and his wounded colleagues from Sierra Leone. The groups accused the Sudanese government and its militias for the implementation of the attack.JEM: Government behind attackJibril Adam Bilal, spokesperson of the JEM told Radio Dabanga that the movement strongly condemned the killing of the UNAMID soldier, which is in turn responsible for the protection of Darfuri civilians.“The Sudanese government and its allied militias are responsible for orchestrating this killing. The area where the accident took place is in complete control of the government and its militias,” he said.Jibril Adam Bilal praised the role of the UNAMID in the region and called on the authorities to protect civilians.SLA-AW: Strengthen UNAMID mandateThe SLA-AW also strongly condemned the attack of the UNAMID peacekeepers. Nimr Abdel Rahman, spokesperson of the group, told Radio Dabanga that the SLA-AW called for the international community to strengthen the UNAMID’s mandate to be more stringent towards its own protection as well as the protection of the civilians.He also accused the Sudanese government and its militias of being behind the implementation of this attack as well as that of other UNAMID soldiers, their vehicles and aid workers in the province.

Two armed opposition movements in Sudan condemned the attack on UNAMID soldiers by unidentified gunmen near Nyala on Monday.

Sudan Liberation Army-Abdul Wahid (SLA-AW) and Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased soldier and his wounded colleagues from Sierra Leone. The groups accused the Sudanese government and its militias for the implementation of the attack.

JEM: Government behind attack

Jibril Adam Bilal, spokesperson of the JEM told Radio Dabanga that the movement strongly condemned the killing of the UNAMID soldier, which is in turn responsible for the protection of Darfuri civilians.

“The Sudanese government and its allied militias are responsible for orchestrating this killing. The area where the accident took place is in complete control of the government and its militias,” he said.

Jibril Adam Bilal praised the role of the UNAMID in the region and called on the authorities to protect civilians.

The SLA-AW also strongly condemned the attack of the UNAMID peacekeepers.
