Armed group springs convict in Kassala, eastern Sudan

An inmate of Kassala prison in eastern Sudan managed to escape with the help of an armed group on Monday. The man was serving a ten-year sentence for human trafficking, a listener told Radio Dabanga from Kassala town. “The convict was being transported to a hospital in Kassala for treatment. Gunmen driving a Land Cruiser attacked the policemen guarding him. They then fled with the prisoner.” The source added that the convict has not even completed the first month of his sentence.
