Anti-regime protests in New Halfa and Gedarif
Tens of students from Gedarif University and civilians in Gedarif market went out for demonstrations yesterday, calling for an end to the current regime. One of the demonstrating students told Radio Dabanga that the demonstration started from the Gedarif Library and went through the grocery market. When the demonstrators reached the great market, they were stopped by police forces who dispersed them and shut down most of the stores in the market.

When the demonstrators reached the great market, they were stopped by police forces who dispersed them and shut down most of the stores in the market. Meanwhile, security men in Kassala state arrested and released 4 of people involved in protests organized by students of Kassala University in New Halfa and several citizens. The released students included the student Yasir Elhadi, while 4 other students still remain under detention. One of the protestors said that the security authorities physically and verbally abused the traders in New Halfa market after dispersing the protestors as well as abusing the restaurant and café owners and those employed in factories and farms.
