Darfur has become secure and safe, as there are no armed movements in Darfur any more, according to President Omar Al Bashir.
“There are only a few mercenaries left in South Sudan and in Libya,” the president said in an interview with France-24 on Friday.
The upcoming referendum on the administrative status of Darfur represents the final phase of the implementation of the 2011 Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, he explained. The term of the Darfur Regional Authority will end in July.
Al Bashir also said that the six National Dialogue committees will complete their final reports within two weeks. He added that he see no need for a preparatory National Dialogue meeting with the Sudanese opposition forces in Addis Ababa, the African Union earlier called for.
