Air raids destroy only water source of Orschi, North Darfur
Aerial bombardments on the area of Khazan Orschi, Um Baru locality in North Darfur on Saturday, destroyed the Orschi water reservoir, the only source of water in the region, and a basic school. More than 20 shops burned to the ground, and a large number of livestock was killed. One man was injured. Residents from the area reported to Radio Dabanga that an Antonov fighter jet at about 12am on Saturday dropped eight bombs on the area of of Khazan Orschi. It was followed by a Sukhoi aircraft that also dropped eight bombs. “Ibrahim Adam Abdallah sustained injuries. About 20 shops burned to the ground. About a thousand heads of livestock were killed. The water reservoir was destroyed as well as the basic school of Orschi. Divine providence saved the students of Khazan Orshi who were sitting for their basic school exams on Saturday. At the time the bombs fell on the school, they had just left the classes.” The member of the North Darfur parliament for Um Baru, Mohamed Ahmed Minawi, also known as Tikeish, strongly condemned the “bombing of unarmed civilians”. “There are definitely no armed movements present in the area.” Minawi demanded an immediate cessation of the bombing and appealed to local authorities and organisations to provide assistance to the affected.
