Abu Tira group rebels against dismissals in North Darfur
A group of 91 members of the Central Reserve Forces (known as Abu Tira) from El Kuma locality in North Darfur have “declared rebellion and seized 11 vehicles with full military assets as a protest against the dismissal of 39 of its members”. The group’s leader, Sergeant El Hadi Ismail Hamid, told Radio Dabanga on Friday that the troops stationed in El Kuma responsible for the protection of Al Inqaz west road declared rebellion as 45 of its personnel were “arbitrarily dismissed a month ago for not obeying orders and 39 others were dismissed on Thursday”. Sgt Hamid said that they interpret this as “the leadership of Central Reserve Forces targeting the sons of the area”. “The number dismissed now amounts to 91 people over three months and thus we have declared rebellion now,” he said, claiming that they “will not surrender” the captured vehicles and arms unless the forces dismissed by the Central Reserve Forces leadership are reinstated.File Photo: Abu Tira troops
