Abdelwahid El Nur: ‘Settlers off land of displaced, compensation, freedom, before talk of peace in Darfur’

Abdelwahid El Nur, the leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-AW) has called on the African Union to disarm the Sudanese government militias, expel the new settlers who have been settled in the lands and villages of the displaced people of Darfur, individually and collectively compensate them, and provide conducive circumstances for freedom before talking about peace.

El Nur said following the declaration by the AU Commissioner for Peace and Security in El Fasher that the meeting of the Justice and Equality Movement and the Sudan Liberation Movement faction led by Minni Minawi in Berlin is the last chance for the movements to join the peace process and threatened to take action against the rejectionist movements.

El Nur told Radio Dabanga that “The African Union must realise that these demands are the Sudanese people’s project before it is a project of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM)”.

He called on the African Union to “stand with the people rather than to protect the dictatorship”.
