‘900 homeless, 750 street kids in North Darfur’s El Fasher’: State

A preliminary survey recently conducted by the Child Welfare Department of North Darfur state has determined that there are more than 900 homeless children in the province, of whom 750 are roaming the streets of its capital El Fasher. Dr Abdulah Yusuf, general manager of the capital’s hospital in El Fasher, disclosed that his facility is in dire need of more staff, provision of modern medical equipment, and a complete review of the hospital’s sewage system. “The hospital suffers from water shortage and electricity problems. It also lacks modern medical equipment; especially dialysis, endoscopy, and intensive care devices, as well as specific children’s rooms,” he told Radio Dabanga. Yusuf demanded the development of oxygen production in the state. File photo: A child in El Fasher (Albert González Farran/Unamid)
