The secretary of the high committee and deputy head of the Customs Authority, Major General Khalil Pasha Sireen, said that the technical teams working in the legalisation of vehicles without license plates have managed to seize the 81 vehicles on Thursday.
“The number represents less than one per cent of the total number of vehicles that have been counted and recorded,” he said during a press conference. More than 10,000 vehicles were recorded in Darfur and 885 in Red Sea.
Sudan is a member country of Interpol, that coordinates crime investigations with an international dimension, since 1956. There are thousands of unregistered vehicles in Darfur – often used by outlaws and criminals.
Meanwhile the National Auditor has revealed that there are financial irregularities and violations at the Customs Authority, amounting to SDG206 million ($31 million).
Other bodies were financial irregularities have occurred according to the National Auditor are El Zakat Chamber, El Hajj and El Umrah Administration, and in the oil sector of Sudan.
