800 South Darfur families facing ‘acute’ water shortage
Some 800 families in South Darfur are facing “acute” drinking water shortage as locals say a 45 meter deep well in the vicinity is often dry. Residents of Beiyra, in Um Dafug locality, are also complaining about the “lack of hospitals and health centers”, forcing them to travel for three hours by horse-cart in order to receive treatment. Mohamed Mahmoud, who lives in the area, added to Radio Dabanga that schools in the region are facing a shortage in teachers, furniture and materials. He demanded local authorities to find solutions to the problems in his community.File photo (Albert Gonzalez Farran/ UNAMID)
