80-year old political prisoner in Darfur falls ill
An elder in Shalla Prison in Darfur, Omda Sajo (age about 80), has fallen ill. He has been kept in prison for nearly two years without trial. The authorities refused to allow him to be transferred to the hospital to receive treatment. Sajo is a leader of conflict-displaced people near El Fasher.
An elder in Shalla Prison in Darfur, Omda Sajo (age about 80), has fallen ill. He has been kept in prison for nearly two years without trial. The authorities refused to allow him to be transferred to the hospital to receive treatment. Sajo is a leader of conflict-displaced people near El Fasher.The displaced people in Abu Shouk and Al Salaam camps appealed for the release of sheikhs and omdas, including Omda Sajo, who have been detained without charges for nearly two years. A sources said that the displaced fear for Omda Sajo’s deteriorating health. They demanded his release along with the others. The dispalced consider that the detention of these men for nearly two years without trial is contrary to the laws as well as an abuse of justice.
