53,000 children die a year due to violence says report
On Thursday a workshop titled ‘Violence against children’ was held in Khartoum, organized by the Institute of Children’s Rights and the National Press Council in cooperation with the Swedish Children’s Council. Hassan Farrah of the National Committee for Children in Sudan stated a study revealed that 53,000 deaths of children occured in a year in Sudan due to violence. Between 20-60% of these children were thought to be subjected to torture. Farrah said many of these children were subjected to physical and verbal abuse in their schools, as well as victims of forced sex, child labour and kidnapping.
