35 Zaghawa abducted in North Darfur
Elements of the paramilitary Border Guards abducted 35 people from the Zaghawa tribe in Mellit, North Darfur, on Sunday, and took them to their site in Kutum on Monday. “Border Guards halted seven commercial vehicles at the gate of Mellit town on Sunday. The vehicles came from El Tina. The Border Guards selected 35 Zaghawa among the passengers, and took them to the Harona district in the western part of Mellit, near the livestock market”, a relative of two of the abducted told Radio Dabanga. On Monday, the abductees were transferred to the headquarters of the Border Guards in El Guba, 6 km northeast of Kutum town. The relative appealed to North Darfur State authorities, aid organisations, and human rights organisations to intervene, release the hostages “as soon as possible”, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
