30 checkpoints on Nyala-Fasher road manned by militia, rebels, police

Passengers and owners of trucks and buses suffer from more than 30 checkpoints along the road from El Fasher to Nyala. Vehicles are not allowed to pass through these checkpoints until after the owner of the vehicle pays a toll, according to an owner of a bus in Nyala. The owner said that they were stopped at more than 30 points and were not allowed to move until after paying the transit fees. He added that these checkpoints have become a real problem, noting that control of the roadblocks is distributed among the militias, armed movements, army and police.
