2,000 displaced trapped in South Darfur Unamid base

The militia siege of the displaced of Khor Abeche camp in South Darfur who sought refuge at the Unamid base nearby is entering its fourth day. One of the displaced at the base told Radio Dabanga that the Khor Abeche camp’s population of more than 2,000 people who sought refuge inside the nearby Unamid team site are still there. Troops of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) who raided and entirely destroyed the camp on Saturday morning, are still present and besieging the site. “We are trapped in the Unamid base. Anyone leaving the base is killed or abducted. The militiamen are firing shots into the air day and night, scaring the women and children in particular.” “We are living in a hell,” the source said, “Sleeping in the open, without water, food, shelter or medicines.” Dr Ismail Hussein Fadul, Member of Parliament for the Khor Abeche constituency, holds “all sides responsible for the tragic circumstances the displaced are forced to live in”. “The local authorities and Unamid should protect the victims and transport them all to Nyala, where they will be safe at least,” Fadul added. Ransom The RSF troops have demanded a ransom of SDG300,000 ($52,364) for the release of three people they had abducted in the attack on Khor Abeche on Saturday morning, the deputy omda of the Zaghawa, Hussein Abakar Mohamed, Osman Adam Ahmed, a guard working for World Vision, and Sileik Jarelnabi. There has been no news about the fourth person abducted, Eisa Abdallah Hileilo, who is the son of the sheikh of Khor Abeche area.
