Sixteen people were killed and others sustained injuries as they returned from a wedding in El Kuma in North Darfur on Monday morning.
All passengers in the vehicle, driving from El Fasher to Um Kedada, were from the same family. Ten men and six women died as the vehicle collided with a tourist bus on El Ingaz road. Four family members were wounded.
Abdallah Mohamed Jumaa lost two daughters in the accident, which took place in Um El Hussein area. He told Radio Dabanga that one of the wounded passengers is in a serious condition. A two-year-old baby survived the accident.
It is noteworthy that many traffic accidents in Darfur are caused by the poor roads in the region. Several years ago, bus drivers contacted by Radio Dabanga commented that most of the highways in Sudan are badly maintained, and need to be widened.
