‘128 people’ fleeing N. Darfur hostilities arrive in Chad

The Touloum refugee camp in eastern Chad has received 128 people fleeing the clashes between Abbala and Beni Hussein tribesmen in North Darfur that began over one month ago. Haider Suleiman Gardia, head of the camp, told Radio Dabanga that 27 families amounting to 128 people arrived in Touloum on Monday night in “poor health conditions”.The newly-arrived refugees comprise 46 children, 12 men and the others are women. They come mostly from Al-Sref Beni Hussein, Saraf Omra and Birka Saira, he said.Gardia pointed out that some humanitarian agencies visited the camp on Tuesday and guaranteed to provide its residents the “necessary assistance”.On 15 January Radio Dabanga reported that 40 families who were also fleeing the tribal clashes in North Darfur had arrived at the Touloum camp.The UN estimates that about 100.000 fled their homes since hostilities between the Abbala and Beni Hussein erupted in the beginning of January.Radio Dabanga file photoRelated: Families fleeing N.
