10.000 names missing from cards re-registration

The World Food Programme (WFP) handed sheikhs of Kass camps in South Darfur a final list of displaced persons eligible to receive food rations with 10.000 names less than initially registered, a camp activist told Radio Dabanga on Tuesday, 30 October. According to the activist, the sheikhs received a list from the WFP with 77.000 names, out of the 87.000 that were initially included in the process.He pointed out the cards re-registration process took place in 21 camps. As a result of the missing names, sheikhs from these camps held a lengthy meeting on Wednesday in which they decided to submit the WFP a memorandum asking it to reconsider including the 10.000 names left out of the cards re-registration process, the activist added. The WFP explained that 10.000 names are missing because of different reasons: some are fake, others do not belong to displaced persons or do not exist, some are duplicate and others are from people who have deceased.  See also: Displaced demand start of re-registration process (31 October 2012)
